Our 6-week Introduction to Barbering Step 1 evening course is designed for complete beginners. You don't need previous hairdressing or barbering experience — just an interest in learning and a willingness to get hands-on.
Learn the essential techniques used by modern barbers in a supportive college environment, build your confidence and discover whether barbering could be the career for you.
What will I learn?
You'll be introduced to the foundations of barbering, including:
- Basic Clipper Work
- Scissor Over Comb
- Texturizing Techniques
- Graduation
- Uniform Layering
- Professional Tools, Techniques and Haircutting Principles
You'll have the opportunity to develop your skills through practical learning on training heads, no models required for step 1 programme.
What qualifications do I need?
No previous experience or qualifications required.
You do not need to be a current hairdressing student. This course is open to anyone aged 16 or over on the date of the first class who wants to explore barbering.
What can I do after?
This course is a great way to try barbering before committing to further study.
On completion, you could explore:
- Progression onto a short full-time/full-time Hairdressing or Barbering course
- Opportunities to gain experience in a barbershop
- Further training and development towards a career in men's grooming
